Kath is the owner and director of Dance 2XS. Kath started her dance career 28 years ago performing in theatre restaurants, as well as performing as a dancer and acrobat in Jupiter Casino's "Jewel of the Orient Express" and in the showroom at the Sheraton Breakwater Casino in Seoul, Korea. After returning to Australia she created The Dance Agency, which provided Cabaret dance shows for National and International corporate events for 14 years. Kath was the founder of the original NBL Taipans "Hot Squad" of which she choreographed for and performed in for 6 years. Kath's cheerleading experience also extends to the AFL Brisbane Lions, NBL Tassie Devils and NBL Gold Coast Rollers. Kath introduced the Mini Squad to our NBL Taipans games and has been coordinating the squad now for 13 years. Kath's passion is sharing her love of dance with her students.
Ashton started dancing at the age of 4 and has not stopped since. Her passion for dancing has grown from learning to performing, and now to sharing her knowledge with the children she teaches. Ashton danced as a lead in the Macau Dance Festival. She has received many medals in the World Dance Championships in Sydney and has played major rolls in many dance performances. Ashton thoroughly enjoys teaching our Dance 2XS students and Taipans Mini Squad. She has also been a cheerleader for the Cairns High Bulldogs, The Marlins Cheer Squad and has been a member of the NBL Taipans Gilligans Cheerleaders for the past 3 seasons.
Amanda has been teaching gymnastics for 34 years. She has a Bachelor of Science from Longwood University and was director of Richmond Olympiad gymnastics club for 3 years. Amanda moved to Australia in 1995 and continued to teach gymnastics for the Barron Valley Gymnastics Club as well as Dance 2XS and the Taipans Cheerleaders. Amanda ran the Cairns PCYC gymnastics beginner program from 2004-2007 and she currently teaches Tumbling & Acrobatics to our Dance 2XS students. Amanda’s expertise and experience teaching gymnastics can clearly be seen in the skill development of our Dance 2XS students.
DiJonne brings to Dance 2XS 33 years of performance excellence, experience and an astounding passion for all genres of performing arts and sports. Born in Melbourne, it was her families influence that had DiJonne performing from the age of 4. She has loved performing on the big stage, especially with Entertainers such as Rhonda Burchmore, The Tinlids (Jimmy Barnes’ Kids Band) various artists in Myer Christmas Pantamines, and an appearance in Carols by Candlelight. Over the years DiJonne has taught a variety of students and has won many Dance & Calisthenics awards, and has featured on a TV series “That’s Dancin (1980’s Ballroom series)”. Since moving to Cairns 10 years ago, DiJonne found her niche with the Dance Agency and has performed at the Pullman Reef Casino and at many Corporate Functions. DiJonne has been a member of the Cairns Taipans Senior Cheer Squad for the past 4 seasons and has also featured in two TV Commercials for the Cairns Taipans.
Kelly's love of dancing and performing began at a young age. She was a cheerleader for a variety of sporting teams including the SANFL Gleneig and Port Adelaide, ABL Giants Baseball, NRL RAMS and spent 10 years dancing in the NBL Adelaide 36ers team. Kelly has performed at many corporate and business events as well as performing in the Opening Ceremony for the soccer at the 2000 Olympics. She has danced on episodes of Here's Humphrey and AM Adelaide. Her love of teaching has seen her teach a variety of dance styles for Adelaide based dance schools. Kelly has a Bachelor of Education majoring in the Arts. Over 19 years of teaching experience has given her the opportunity to choreograph for school competitions and musicals. She loves how dance enhances children's self esteem, enables them to experience success and most of all, just have fun.
Geared with a foundation in gymnastics and teaching yoga, Louise is Cairns’ leading Aerial performer and teacher. She spent four intensive years of national and international training prior to her commencement of teaching in 2011. She has performed with companies such as Dancing in the Air – Sydney, Flying Fruit Fly circus – Albury, Tasmanian circus festival, Western Australian circus festival, Kabuwazi circus – Berlin (youth circus), Circus Centre – San Francisco. Serendipity brought Louise into the world of circus and performing arts. Today Louise is primarily an Aerialist, but she has also trained in contortion and adagio. She is delighted to be an Aerial teacher and performer. It is her life’s passion and she loves exploring this world with her students.
Andrew has grown up on stage, originally as a singer, but eventually dipping his toe into the dancing scene when he joined the all-boys dance troupe at his high school. After high school, he enrolled in recreational hip-hop classes for some fun and was later recruited into a competition cheerleading team. Andrew spent 8 years in level 3 and 4 years in level 4 teams which have taken him all around Australia, New Zealand and to the USA twice. He began coaching tumbling classes 5 years ago and naturally progressed into competition teams, including levels 1,2 and 3 in a variety of age categories. Last year he branched out and started running Tumble and Cheer workshops for various gyms finding them very rewarding. Andrew loves the athleticism and fitness involved with cheer and dance and loves to grow a similar passion within his students.
“…Mother said I was a dancer before I could walk…” Marde commenced her lifelong dance career with RAD (Royal Academy of Dancing) at 6, rounding off her 12 years professional training at the National Ballet School in Johannesburg, South Africa. This gave her exposure to multiple dance techniques and participation in spectacular theatre productions. Though she enjoyed Spanish Dance and Ballroom, Ballet has always been her first love. Following a Bachelors Degree in Nursing and Midwifery, she completed her studies in Body Conditioning and training of dancers and athletes – giving her special insight to the supportive muscular needs of various ages and dance styles. She moved to Australia in 2015 with her family, perusing her career as a Midwife. Now Marde will share her talents and joy for dance with the Dance 2XS-family, teaching ‘baby-ballerinas’ and those looking for alternative, fun fitness.
Kim entered the dance world at the age of 5. She has always had a passion for dance, cheer, musical theatre and gymnastics. Kim adores the fun and energetic atmosphere at Dance 2XS as well as the encouragement all students receive from their teachers. Kim loves being an assistant dance teacher at Dance 2XS and aspires to pass on the knowledge she has gained though her own dance experience. Kim hopes to inspire young children, that dance is more than pretty bows and makeup, it is also about developing your skills, making friends and most of all having fun!!!
Josie has loved dancing ever since she was 4. She has danced a range of styles - jazz, ballet, modern, contemporary and tap. She has been at Dance 2XS for two years and has enjoyed every second of it. Josie loves the encouraging and incredibly fun teachers at Dance 2XS and thoroughly enjoys being an assistant teacher. She loves helping teach in all her classes and hopes that the students enjoy having her there just as much as she does.
Hayley has been dancing since she was three years old. She has been with Dance 2XS for six years and has been a member of both the Cairns Taipans and Marlins Mini Squads. Hayley loves to dance and enjoys the challenges of learning new stunts and techniques. She is also a member of the Dance 2XS Infinity Elite Cheer Squad and has been excited to take her cheerleading to the next level with the more technical styles involved with the competition squad. She is passionate about dance and cheer and appreciates the opportunity she has as an assistant teacher to share what she has learned with these classes.
Melinda has been dancing since the age of 3. She is currently completing her major exams in Ballet (RAD)Tap and Jazz (ISTD) and hopes to complete her teaching qualifications in these areas. She does competition dancing in solos, duos, trios and troupes and has won many awards. Melinda has also performed at community events such as Carols by Candlelight, The Great Pyramid Race, Local Fetes and the Cairns Show. She is an avid cheerleader and has competed at cheer competitions throughout Queensland and has loved been a member of Taipans Mini Squad since the age of 5 and in the Marlins cheer squad for the last 3 years. Melinda loves being an assistant teacher at Dance 2XS especially the bond she forms with her young students.
Jessica started teaching at Dance 2XS in 2017 and has loved every moment of it. She has had a passion for acrobatics and dancing from a very early age. Her years dancing and tumbling at Dance 2XS has lead Jessica to countless opportunities such as joining the Marlins and Taipans Cheer Squads, the Infinity Elite Cheerleading Team, also auditioning and being a part of the COE dance programme at her own school. Since Jessica started at Dance 2XS she had always felt safe and looked forward to the concerts each year. She always looked up to her teachers wishing she could do the same in the future. Now Jessica is an assistant teacher at Dance 2XS. She is happy and enjoys being a part of the team and loves teaching the cute little kids.
